90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way couple Deavan Clegg and Jihoon Lee’s split ended up separating the Korean man from his son Taeyang. Single mom Deavan was introduced in season 1 as she was moving to South Korea with her daughter and her newborn son. Deavan from Utah had met Jihoon from Seoul on a dating app. She seemed to have an interest in dating Korean men and after a few months of chatting, Jihoon showed up in the U.S. Deavan became pregnant on their first night together. Deavan told Jihoon about the baby while he was going back home.
Jihoon witnessed the birth of Taeyang through a video call. However, Jihoon failed to be a responsible dad. He wasn’t serious about savings even though Deavan left her American life and moved to his country. Deavan and Jihoon also faced communication issues with her never trying to understand Jihoon’s language or culture and his not knowing English. Something shocking took place when they were filming The Other Way season 2 that led to Deavan taking her kids and moving back to Utah. Deavan and Jihoon have since been divorced, but it was a complicated affair on all counts.
Does Jihoon Lee Try To See His Child?
Jihoon Didn’t Want Drascilla & Taeyang To Leave Korea
The drama in Deavan and Jihoon’s storyline off-camera revealed new twists and turns every day even before 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way season 2 had premiered. Deavan was already back in the U.S. with her two kids. She claimed that Jihoon had done something “vile” to Drascilla. She accused Jihoon of pulling out three inches of Drascilla’s hair and hitting the girl. Meanwhile, Jihoon claimed that Deavan wanted to take the kids back to the U.S. and he wasn’t on board with it. He said that Deavan had threatened to kill herself if he didn’t let her take Taeyang.
As per Jihoon, his parents had offered to look after Taeyang and Drascilla in Korea if Deavan wished to go home. However, a month after she went to the U.S., Deavan demanded a breakup. As per Jihoon, Deavan started talking about their separation without confirming it with her. She did it after she found a new boyfriend. Meanwhile, Deavan told her followers that Jihoon hadn’t tried to contact her about seeing Taeyang and had told her he wanted nothing to do with his son. Jihoon tried to prove her wrong by posting pictures of gifts he had sent to Taeyang.
What About The Gifts The Heartbroken Father Was Trying To Send His Son?
90 Day Fiancé viewers started accusing Deavan of kidnapping Taeyang. Her mother, Elicia, insisted Deavan would never have done anything illegal of that sort. She also denied claims that Deavan had prohibited Jihoon from visiting his son. She said Jihoon was free to come to the U.S. to see his one-year-old boy anytime. However, as per Elicia, Jihoon just didn’t want to do it. Jihoon kept saying his wife had blocked all means of contact between her and him. By January 2021, Jihoon hired a lawyer and began a custody battle against his American wife.
Jihoon had launched a GoFundMe and used the money to get legal help. Utah-based Joseph C. Alamilla was supposedly representing Jihoon. At the same time, Deavan contacted South Korean police to report Jihoon and his mother for alleged child abuse. Jihoon went ahead and filed a new lawsuit against Deavan and her new boyfriend, claiming that they had slandered him by accusing him of abuse. He slammed Topher for pursuing a romance with Deavan despite knowing she was married. In April 2021, it was reported that Jihoon’s GoFundMe was shut down, which was the main source of his legal funds.
It started to look like Deavan was going to win the custody battle now that the fundraiser had been closed. That’s exactly what happened because a year later, in May 2022, Deavan confirmed her divorce with Jihoon. She revealed that she was awarded full custody of their son. Deavan referred to the two-year process as “very difficult and draining.” The case had made it to court after a year of the judge postponing and extending dates for Jihoon to respond. Deavan revealed that Jihoon had been an absent father and hadn’t reached out to Taeyang in almost two years.
Deavan Brought A New Father Figure Into Taeyang’s Life
Deavan Is Engaged To Topher Park
Deavan celebrated her divorce from Jihoon by revealing Topher was now free to adopt her son. Topher had created a permanent space for himself in Deavan’s life. The couple was expecting their first child together when Deavan was granted her divorce and custody of Taeyang. There were some red flags about Topher, such as the timeline of when he had met Deavan. Topher also had an acting past, leading to rumors about him wanting to make it big on reality TV by using Deavan. Jihoon had been disappointed in Deavan when she posted about her new boyfriend on Instagram.
“another man is pretending to be Taeyang’s father.”
Jihoon called Topher out for “pretending” to be the father to Taeyang. He said that Topher was “imitating” to be Taeyang’s dad. Jihoon was “hurt very badly” because Deavan had left him and had a new man even though they were still married. He thought Deavan left him because he was a nobody and had already invested in himself so he could be a better person. Unfortunately, Jihoon could never become a good father and husband to his child and Deavan. Topher seamlessly blended into Deavan’s little family and brought joy and happiness to her and her little ones.
Little Taeyang Was Battling Cancer
How Is Jihoon & Deavan’s Son Doing Now?
Taeyang was diagnosed with cancer in the same month that Deavan’s divorce was confirmed. Deavan told her followers he was battling B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a type of blood cancer found more commonly among children. Deavan shared pictures of Taeyang from inside a hospital. One of them showed a port-a-cath that could be seen inserted on the right side of Taeyang’s chest. Deavan started a GoFundMe as she needed financial help with the toddler’s chemotherapy and other treatments. They were trying to raise $50,000 and got close as they raised almost $43,133 until it was closed.
There were times in the last two years when Taeyang faced several rough patches on his road to recovery. Taeyang was in and out of hospitals. His health declined in December 2023 with Taeyang having to be taken to the ER. Deavan revealed Taeyang’s health had taken a turn for the worse, and he was running a 103.8-degree fever. Deavan revealed that Jihoon had not even attempted to communicate with his son despite being told that Taeyang had leukemia. Deavan insisted she had never withheld their son from Jihoon, and yet he chose not to get involved.
By August 2024, Deavan finally had good news to share with her Instagram fans. She revealed that after a “grueling” two years and three months, Taeyang was finally cancer-free. The young 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way mom praised her son for his resilience and bravery. She also thanked the staff who supported them and encouraged them throughout Taeyang’s difficult journey.
