It happened when the two, who star as Paul Foreman and Billy Mayhew in the ITV soap opera, were spotted together at an awards ceremony.
The emotional yet happy moment Daniel Brocklebank and fellow cast member Peter Ash experienced after receiving recognition for their most recent, hard-hitting plotline has been shared.
The ITV soap opera actors, Billy Mayhew and Paul Foreman, were joined by a plethora of other soap opera stars from Corrie, Emmerdale, EastEnders, and Hollyoaks at the RadioTimes.com Soap Awards on Saturday night, July 13.
A panel of soap opera experts selected “Paul’s Motor Neurone Disease diagnosis” “Best Storyline,” and the who’s who of Soapland were spotted hitting the red carpet before entering Manchester’s historic Midland Hotel for the ceremony.
After learning in April 2023 that he has a life-shortening condition in which messages from the motor neurones gradually stop reaching the muscles, Peter received a ton of praise for his portrayal of Paul in the ITV serial opera.
The terrible illness, for which the late rugby player Rob Burrown provided support, has no known cure. Peter and Daniel, who plays Paul’s husband Billy Mayhew, eloquently depict the emotional and physical toll that receiving such a diagnosis takes on both the patient and their loved ones.
Corrie shared on social media that the plotline had won a Soap Award. She included a photo of Peter grinning and clutching the trophy, as well as a video of him appearing on stage at the event. She captioned the photo with the hashtag “Best storyline goes to Paul’s Motor Neurone Disease [clapping emojis] @peterash_85.”
Later, Dan posted a happy photo of himself and Peter on his personal Instagram profile. Peter was holding the award. Dan said, “I’m overjoyed that our #MND narrative won #BestStoryline at the @radiotimes #SoapAwards last night. Many congratulations to all of the amazing members of our team at Coronation Street.”
Since then, he has released a brand-new image that co-star Channique Sterling-Brown took, capturing the moment when a happy Peter exited the stage and Dan gave him a hug. The actor shared it with his own fan base and followers, saying, “This is my favorite picture of the evening! I know @channiquesb won’t mind, but I absolutely stole it from her. #Winner #MND #SoapAwards.”
The actress who plays Dee-Dee Bailey on Corrie, Channique, replied right away, writing: “I don’t at all, such a wonderful moment to have caught! We adore your lovely stories, you guys.” Star of Emmerdale Laura Norton remarked, “Brilliant,” while Jonny Labey, a former cast member of EastEnders, exclaimed, “So bloody proud!!”
Dan’s admirers and supporters were eager to react to the positive incident as well. Says @wendi.donaldson: “Amazing affection! What a lovely narrative you are telling. I’m grateful to you both.” In the comments, @teamstewart254 said, “Thank you for everything you do for the MND family.” The user @mcgovern8478 said, “Well done, I’ve already shed a tear or two.”
In response, @nickyadam907 said: “Huge Well-deserved congratulations.” @suzywoo2207 wrote: “I’m really happy for you all. deservedly so.
