The Max Turner actor spoke about his co-star’s exit for the first time with the MEN at the Radio Times Soap Awards
Star of Coronation Street Paddy Bever talked for the first time about his co-star Helen Worth’s departure from the show, praising her for her “radical kindness.” In the ITV serial opera, the actor portrays David, Gail Platt’s son,’s stepson, Max Turner.
Since his mother Kylie passed away in 2016, he has resided at No. 8 Coronation Street with David, Gail, stepmother Shona Platt, and younger sister Lily. He is under the exclusive care of the hairdresser.
However, as fans discovered last month, Gail will soon be bidding farewell to Weatherfield and her family after spending more than 50 years on the well-known street.
The beloved character, who has been a regular on the show since Helen, 73, made her debut in 1974, will be leaving Weatherfield before the end of 2024. In June, when she marked 50 years on the popular soap opera, she revealed her departure plans.
Helen released a statement confirming her departure, saying, “After celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world, this felt like the perfect time to leave the show.” I communicated with the producers at the beginning of the year after making the decision, and they were really understanding and nice.”
She continued, saying, “I have been incredibly fortunate to work with amazing actors, directors, and crew, as well as to be handed the most amazing scripts every single week. The last fifty years have gone fairly quickly, and I don’t think it really hit me that I’m leaving.”
Paddy talked about Helen and her impending departure for the first time when he spoke with the Manchester Evening News on the red carpet of the RadioTimes.com Soap Awards, which were held on Saturday night (July 13) at Manchester’s famous Midland Hotel.
“I believe Helen is the kindest soul,” he said to us. She is one of the most beautiful persons I have ever met and she truly has a radical kindness about her that always makes me feel comfortable and at ease. While I’m heartbroken to be losing Helen, I’m also really happy for her and all that she has done. That’s why it’s bittersweet.
It comes as executives have disclosed that Platt matriarch Gail will have a “happy ending” when she departs Weatherfield’s cobblestone streets, allaying fans’ fears that she will be eliminated from the show. However, her departure will cause “explosive drama” for her family members who remain.
Iain MacLeod, executive producer of ITV’s ongoing drama, stated in the Daily Star’s Hot TV column: “The Platt family will have a lot more drama after Gail’s happy ending. It will set off a furious drama full of twists and betrayals. Something will be left behind by her departure.”
