Legendary Coronation Street besties Roy Cropper (David Neilson) and Carla Connor (Alison King) are leaving Weatherfield behind them after a dramatic few months.
Poor Roy has really been through it this year, after being arrested for the murder of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).
When Lauren went missing, Roy was the last person to see her alive, and after he cleaned up her flat as a favour to Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman), it left him as the prime suspect for her murder.
Thankfully, Lauren has since been found alive, officially clearing Roy’s name. When she came to apologise, he was very receptive, and pointed out that she was also a victim in this situation.
Having spent months being targeted with abuse due to the allegations against him, Roy decided that it was time to wave Weatherfield goodbye for a while.
However, he wasn’t going to leave without saying goodbye to Carla, who has also had a stressful few months.
When he explained that he planned to visit ex Cathy in Scarborough, Carla decided that she wanted to come too, and she wasn’t taking no for an answer.
Offering to give Roy a lift to save him getting the train, she announced that she would book herself into a hotel with a spa, for a weekend of R&R.
While viewers may be gutted to see them go, when Carla announced that she would be going away for a few days, several of her Underworld employees saw an opportunity.
In recent scenes, Betsy Swain (Sydney Martin) uncovered a scam that Beth Tinker (Lisa George) had cooked up, and she made it clear she wanted in on the action.
Betsy caught Beth sewing designer labels into cheap t-shirts, and warned her that if she didn’t let her in on the business then she’d tell Carla everything.
Beth reluctantly agreed, and the announcement of Carla’s departure couldn’t have come at a better time for them.
As soon as she was out of ear shot, the pair agreed to ramp up production while she was away, in order to earn some extra cash.
Will they get away with their scheme, or will Carla catch them out when she returns?
