Two Coronation Street icons have bid farewell to the famous cobbles after a tumultuous period.
Carla Connor, played by Alison King, first graced our screens in 2006 and
quickly became a fan favourite. The factory boss has been at the centre of
some unforgettable storylines over the years, from scandalous affairs to her struggle with alcoholism. Carla’s tenure on the iconic street has certainly been packed with drama.
Recently, her friend Roy Cropper (David Neilson) found himself behind bars. Viewers will remember that Roy was accused of murdering Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), who mysteriously disappeared earlier this year. However, the real culprit behind Lauren’s disappearance was revealed to be the twisted solicitor Joel Deering (Calum Lill), reports the Express.
Lauren has since made a surprising comeback, officially exonerating Roy. But between his time in prison and facing public backlash, it hasn’t been smooth sailing for Roy.
He ended up in hospital last week after suffering a heart attack, causing great concern for Carla and niece Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher).
Roy was discharged shortly afterwards and returned to the cobbles, along with Lauren. However, Carla wasn’t pleased to see Lauren in Friday’s episode (July 19), blaming her for the ordeal Roy had endured over the past few months.
After enduring months of abuse due to the allegations, Roy made an unexpected decision to take a break from Weatherfield and visit his friend Cathy Matthews (Melanie Hill) in Scarborough.mUpon hearing about Roy’s plans to head North, Carla was adamant that she would be joining him.
She even proposed to drive Roy there herself and mentioned booking a hotel and spa for her stay. Carla then informed her Underworld staff that she would be taking a short leave.
