Joel Deering, who has a sinister plan, is scheduled to visit Lauren Bolton next week. The big question is whether he’ll reach her before the concerned neighbors do. Meanwhile, Rowan Cliff is blackmailing Nick Tilsley, and Bethany Platt is forcing her way into Beth Tinker’s secret project. Toya Battersby is alarmed by some unsettling news from Kirk Sutherland, and Dan Wilson’s fortunes take a turn for the worse when he learns about a mysterious young girl seen with Roy Cropper in the hospital.
DT Bailey and Nina Lucas are shocked to find out that the police are reviewing CCTV footage to determine Lauren’s involvement in recent events. Lauren’s disappearance has Nina worried, while Roy, despite being happy that Lauren is alive, is anxious about her delay in clearing his name. Unbeknownst to Roy, Lauren is on the run from the dangerous Joel.
When Lauren is spotted using Beany’s credit card, it’s revealed that the coat she wore matches one seen in CCTV footage from a pizza place. Carla Connor confronts the thugs who have been harassing Roy, but things get physical when one of them attacks her. Joel, meanwhile, pretends to be heading to work and lies to Dee-Dee about a request for more money from Beth. Dee-Dee, following a tip, goes to a soup kitchen where a homeless woman confirms Lauren’s location.
Joel, on the other hand, pretends to be at work while actually searching for clues about Lauren’s whereabouts. He plans to relocate Lauren to Northern Ireland after she gives birth to their baby to evade justice. With an email about Belfast airport making Dee-Dee suspicious, and Joel’s ex-wife Emily warning her not to trust him, Dee-Dee digs deeper and finds out about Lauren’s plans to move across the river.
The upcoming months are set to be intense as Joel’s manipulative and violent behavior, which includes harassing Lauren and causing her to go into hiding, is revealed. His intention to induce early labor in Lauren and his ongoing schemes make it clear that his time on the show is numbered. Actor Callum, who plays Joel, has already planned his next role and is set to leave the soap opera soon.
