Emmerdale has revealed that Arthur Thomas will make a dramatic return to the screen next week. After a significant absence, during which his family claimed he was in Australia, Arthur is finally back. This temporary exit was written into the show as Alfie Clark, who portrays Arthur, was occupied with completing his GCSEs and finishing high school.
Arthur’s return comes at a poignant time, as he has missed several major events in his family’s life, including his mother Laurel’s recent divorce from Jai Sharma. Next week, Arthur’s reappearance at Mulberry Cottage will disrupt a romantic moment between his sister Gabby and her new boyfriend, Vinnie Dingle. Gabby had recently moved back into Mulberry Cottage temporarily, giving Billy and Dawn Fletcher space at Home Farm while their baby is unwell.
Arthur immediately confronts Jai about the stress and difficulties Laurel has faced due to their divorce. Jai, who has been manipulating the situation to ensure Laurel doesn’t receive her fair share of the divorce settlement, initially dismisses Arthur’s concerns. However, it quickly becomes clear that Arthur is determined and serious about addressing the injustices against his mother.
In a recent interview, Rosie Bentham, who plays Gabby, spoke about the evolving dynamics in her character’s storyline. She shared her enthusiasm for working closely with Charlotte Bellamy, who plays Laurel, and noted how the current plotlines bring a nostalgic feel reminiscent of earlier Emmerdale days. Rosie explained that while she enjoys playing the more ruthless aspects of Gabby, it’s also fulfilling to reconnect with Laurel and revisit Mulberry Cottage. Despite her character’s tough exterior, Gabby’s role as a manager at HDE allows her to maintain a balance between her ruthless side and her professional responsibilities.
