EXCLUSIVE: A Coronation Street couple, who found love on the cobbles, are reportedly set for a split with a star revealing things are “not
looking good.”
A beloved Coronation Street couple are said to be calling things quits after a dramatic few months.
Soap favourites Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) and Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) struck up a romance a few years ago. The pair became an unlikely couple when they first got together but have since flourished in their own unique way.
Despite her quirks, Dev has welcomed Bernie into his home and life with his children, putting her criminal past behind her. He has also been supporting Bernie, following her son Paul Foreman’s MND diagnosis last year.
Viewers of the ITV soap watched Paul (Peter Ash) start to struggle with his grip at first and he was eventually referred to a neurologist for tests. Sadly though, his speech and mobility deteriorated.
Fast forward a year and Paul was housebound, unable to leave his flat due to not being able to use his stairlift. This week though, Paul sadly died in emotional scenes aired on Monday (September 9).
In a devastating twist, Paul passed away before his husband Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) could make it to the hospital in time. Paul’s family desperately called Billy for him to speak with Paul for the final time as his health deteriorated.
As Billy told his husband how much he loved him, Paul slipped away. Paul’s twin sister Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) was about to tell Billy that Paul had died before the emotional call but Bernie stopped her daughter from sharing the life-shattering news over the phone.
Now, Bernie actor Jane Hazlegrove has hinted that a shock split could be happening for Bernie and Dev. Talking to Liverpool Echo and other press, Jane spoke out about how Dev reacts following Paul’s death – but it seems heartbreak is on the cards.
She said: “He’s very supportive and extremely kind.” The soap star continued: “Perhaps a bit too kind, and the grief is going to come out through that I’m afraid. And it’s not necessarily good I’m afraid,” she added, teasing Bernie and Dev’s split.
