Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has said that she isn’t interested in looking for love right now, explaining that she is willing to wait for the right person – even if it takes decades.
The actress, who joined Corrie as troubled Cassie Plummer in summer 2023, is currently single, and has told The Mirror‘s Invite Only podcast that she already feels fulfilled in life, and doesn’t feel the need to enter a new relationship at the moment.
“I’m not dating at the moment, no,” she said. “I mean, I’m so fulfilled and it’s so exciting what I’m doing. I get all the love I want off my son (nine-year-old Jaxon), all the attention I want at work, and I’m financially secure. So at the moment, I’m not searching.
“I’ve always been very self-sufficient. I’m not someone who needs to have a boyfriend.”
The star, who is also known for her role as Lindsey Corkhill in former soap Brookside, added that she takes inspiration from her grandmother, who “met the love of her life when she was 86”.
“He was her 74-year-old toyboy,” she said. “She married him and at her 100th birthday she said, ‘This man’s kept me alive with love and laughter.’ They laughed every day. And I thought, if I have to wait that long to meet the right person, and make the right choice, so be it.”
The actress also has a close circle of friends to rely on for support, and she revealed that it was her female friends who stepped up to keep her going when she was competing on Dancing on Ice earlier this year.
“Doing Dancing on Ice this year was terrifying, but I went out there and gave it a go,” she said. “And I’ve had lots of supportive messages. Carol Vorderman has been amazing, and Vanessa Feltz. These women are great.
“I find Carol really inspirational because she’s fearless. We’ve been friends for years and she’s fantastic and beautiful – she’s a real girl’s girl.”
Since Sweeney’s Corrie character Cassie arrived on the cobbles, she has been at constant loggerheads with her mum Evelyn – but Evelyn’s recent discovery about Cassie’s troubled past is set to cause a change in their frosty relationship.
