Coronation Street star Jack Carroll supported by co-stars after major career news

Coronation Street cast member Jack Carroll has received support from some of his colleagues after having made an announcement about his career just a couple of days ago.

The actor, 25, joined the cast of the ITV show last year. He plays Bobby Crawford, who was introduced as the nephew of Carla Barlow (played by Alison King). The character is the estranged son of her brother Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis).

Jack – who was a finalist on Britain’s Got Talent in 2013 – has appeared in a few other projects recently, too. It includes the short film Mobility, which he co-wrote, that was released through BBC Three and BBC iPlayer last year.

The short film follows three sixth form students who are “trapped together on a mobility bus” to school. Jack plays the character Mike, who like the actor has cerebral palsy. He stars alongside Ruben Reuter and Zak Ford-Williams in it.

It was announced last week that the project has been nominated for a BAFTA. Mobility is among the nominees in the Short Form category at the BAFTA Television Awards, with the winner set to be revealed at the ceremony in May.

Jack reacted on Instagram, writing: “Mobility, the short film I co-wrote and starred in has just been nominated for a BAFTA! You can still catch it on the iPlayer. Time to iron my tuxedo and go around calling myself BAFTA nominated.”

He continued in the post: “Huge thanks and congratulations to co-writer Tom Gregory, director Akaash Meeda and producer Sam Ward as well as the brilliant cast and crew and David Simpson and Tiger Aspect and the BBC.”

The post prompted supportive messages from some of Jack’s followers on the platform. It included a few of his co-stars from Coronation Street who took to the comments section to congratulate their colleague on the achievement.

Alex Bain, who plays Simon Barlow, said: “WOW! That’s incredible Jack! Get the celebrations going now mate!” Adam Hussain, who plays Aadi Alahan, wrote: “Congrats Jack!” Jude Riordan, who plays Sam Blakeman, said: “Congratulations Jack.”

Whilst Anthony Crank, who’s occasionally appeared as drug dealer Dean Turnbull in the ITV show, reacted to the post: “Get in lad!” And among the people who liked the post itself was cast member Paddy Bever, who plays Max Turner.
