ITV Coronation Street fans all say the same thing as Steve McDonald and Cassie Plummer date

It looked like things were heating up for Cassie Plummer and Steve McDonald as they seemed to get along well at the Rovers Return speed dating event.

Coronation Street fans are hopeful for a romance between Steve McDonald and Cassie Plummer.

Tonight, the Rovers Return held a speed dating night for the residents of Weatherfield. Following his split from Tracy Barlow, who was having an affair with footballer turned decorator Tommy Orpington, Steve and Tracy have now split and he has been adamant he needs to get out there and find someone new and give himself another chance at love.

However, this evening, he was less than impressed when he ended up sat in front of his ex. Following an awkward round, he was more than pleased to be partnered with Cassie and soon they hit things off. Steve asked Cassie if he could see her again, but she awkwardly turned him down and he went home to express his worries to Amy that he’ll never find love.

Whilst it looks like things are over for Steve and Cassie, fans are now hopeful for a twist. One wrote: “I can actually Steve and Cassie together #Corrie,” whilst another added: “Actually think Steve and Cassie have a bit of chemistry #Corrie.” A third shared: “I’m here for Cassie and Steve they got better chemistry tph #Corrie,” as a fourth wrote: “WHY DO I SHIP CASSIE AND STEVE- #corrie.”

Actor Simon Gregson – who plays Steve – wants to see his character get back out on the dating scene once more.

“I think it would be great if we see Steve having to go down the route of speed dating, online dating,” he said, before quipping: “Steve could have a full on mid life crisis, maybe we could see him losing weight, changing his appearance, going to the gym. It could be a lot of fun and also a great excuse for me to make some changes in real life!”

Simon isn’t worried whether Steve falls in love with someone on the Cobbles or a new character. He added: “I think anyone will do. At this point in Steve’s life he’d be lucky to have anybody! … He gets why Tracy is attracted to Tommy, but he’s just so upset that his idol has done this to him,” he said. “I think there’s so much going on at once that he’s not properly put it together yet.”
