Coronation Street ‘plans most grisly storyline EVER involving a dead baby born over two decades ago after a rape’

Coronation Street are reportedly planning one of their most grisly storylines ever as they bring back a dead baby for an upsetting storyline.

The Sun has revealed that the new storyline will involve revelations of a dead baby from more than two decades ago, after Toyah Battersby buried the stillborn in a park after she was raped in 2001.

While viewers will learn this shocking information for the first time, Toyah, played by Georgia Taylor, and now 44, is set to find out where she buried the baby is going to be dug up and fears her secret will be discovered.

A source told the publication: ‘Aside from the fact that viewers want entertainment, this is still an incredibly dark and ambitious storyline, and some longtime fans may decide to pick apart the holes.

‘It all played out on screen, the brutal attack, the aftermath, so for it to now transpire that she became pregnant from the rape, suffered a stillbirth all alone before burying her dead baby at The Red Rec has raised quite a few eyebrows on set.

‘It’s not going to go down well.’

MailOnline have contacted Coronation Street representatives for comment.

It comes after it was announced last week that Kate Brooks has been appointed the new producer for Coronation Street after leaving Emmerdale in a surprise shake-up.

The TV veteran – who first served as story producer on the cobbles back in 2012 – is leaving Emmerdale after eight years to take over from Iain MacLeod after he was promoted to executive producer for continuing drama.

In a statement, she said: ‘I’ve had a wonderful time working on Emmerdale and I feel immensely proud to be part of a team that has achieved such great success over the past eight years.

‘I’ve absolutely loved my time on the show, and I’ve had the privilege of working with such a hugely talented and hard-working bunch of people, who also happen to be the loveliest, too.’

Kate added that she has gained more than she ‘ever could have imagined’ both professionally and personally from her time on the Yorkshire Dales-based show, but she’s delighted to make the jump to Weatherfield next month.

She said: ‘Corrie has lit up my living room since I was a kid, so to be asked to produce a show I’ve revered for such a long time is the ultimate pinch me moment.
