ITV Coronation Street star Tina O’Brien ‘cleared’ following public brawl

After trying to defend her home from an unprovoked attack in a heavily publicised brawl, Tina O’Brien was cleared of all blame.

On Thursday, April 11, 2024, police issued an update and concluded that the Coronation Street actress was “acting in self-defence” when teen girls brutally fought outside of her Stockport, Greater Manchester, home.

A source said: “Police have concluded Tina acted in self-defence and hasn’t done anything wrong. Her version has always been she was defending her home and her family, and that appears to have been accepted.”

“Tina is also tiny and not an aggressive person so is not the kind to be fighting in the street usually. These girls came to her road and to her house, and that’s the only reason she got involved. She thinks they were looking for trouble and — although it was not a good look — in a way she did the right thing,” they added to The Sun.

Tina

While her on-screen alter ego Sarah Barlow isn’t one to shy away from confrontation in the cobbles, Tina was doing whatever she could to stop two teen girls from scrapping last month. In a video made public on March 21, 2024, by The Sun, the 40-year-old actress was seen rushing out of her home in pink tracksuit bottoms and a black and white striped top as tensions flared up.

The two youngsters involved in the altercation had been squaring up outside her £1 million home and, as Tina was filmed having her hair pulled and briefly holding one of the girls in a headlock, one of the teens can be heard saying: “You’ve touched my mum.” Desperate to de-escalate the situation, the soap star was also heard pleading: “Let go of her…. stop. Let go of her, I just said stop. Let go of her.”

Amid the crisis, it was later reported that Corrie bosses had agreed to give Tina a week off from filming the Manchester-based drama as she reeled in shock. Another source explained: “Tina went straight to meet her Corrie bosses this morning. She told them she was the victim here, and they have accepted that. They also think the incident has traumatised her so have been very sympathetic.”
