Coronation Street fans have said they “can’t stand it” after bosses at the long-running soap issued a new update on Sunday.

As viewers will know, show favourite Roy Cropper has been charged with the murder of Lauren Bolton. Well-meaning Roy had given the runaway a job and found her somewhere to live, but he has now found himself in serious trouble with the law.

Roy has also been refused bail, meaning he will reside in a police cell until the case goes to court.

A post on Coronation Street’s official Instagram page today showed a clip from Friday’s episode, as Roy’s solicitor Dee-Dee Bailey told Carla Connor and Nina Lucas that Roy would not be coming home.

Captioning the update, Corrie bosses said: “‘They’ve charged him with Lauren’s murder.’ “The drama continues tomorrow at 8pm on ITV!”

Fans have been quick to respond, and many are not happy. Rachel said: “We need Lauren to come back now! As this storyline is ridiculous every viewer knows Roy is NOT capable of murder and is innocent” while Claire said: “This storyline is ridiculous, can’t stand it”.

Mel said: “Leave Roy alone” and Ben said: “Can we free Roy? It’s not right, he has done nothing wrong”.
