Coronation Street’s Bernie Winter sparks showdown with newcomer Denny

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street‘s Bernie Winter will face off with newcomer Denny next week, as she accuses him of taking son Paul Foreman’s wheelchair.

Paul and Gemma Winter’s estranged father, Denny, arrives on the cobbles this week after he hears Paul giving his radio interview on Amy Barlow’s new student radio show.

When Denny approaches Bernie in the street and complains that he only found out about Paul’s illness through a radio show, Bernie lies that Paul has already passed away – a claim which Denny quickly disproves when he follows her up to Paul and Billy Mayhew’s flat.

Despite Bernie’s major misgivings, Paul decides to give his dad a chance and invites Denny to spend some time with him, but Bernie will soon come to blows with her ex again.

In scenes airing on Monday, May 6, Bernie comes face to face with Denny outside Paul and Billy’s flat and is shocked to find him pushing Paul’s wheelchair down the street.

Denny claims that he’s taking the chair for a service but Bernie doesn’t believe a word of his story and she threatens to call the police.

Could Denny’s true colours have been exposed already?

Actor Peter Ash, who plays Paul, has warned that Denny “was definitely not a nice person at all” in the past and added that he doesn’t think he has “changed that much” over the years.

Despite the family’s misgivings over Denny’s sudden arrival, Paul appears to be willing to give his dad another chance, and Ash has explained that Paul’s Motor Neurone Disease diagnosis is playing a big part in his attitude.

“I think had it been a couple years ago, without the MND diagnosis, he probably would have told his dad to do one, basically,” he said.

The actor added: “I think Paul has a different outlook now because obviously he’s dying, and I think he’s just got a different way of looking at that.”
