Coronation Street legend Chris Gascoyne has landed his first huge role since leaving the cobbles last year.
Soap fans were left in tears over Christmas when Peter Barlow, played by actor Chris, 56, left Weatherfield and wife Carla Connor. Peter had been struggling following the shock death of Stephen Reid, when he ran him over with his taxi fearing he was going to kill Jenny Connor. However, Peter had struggled since Stephen’s death, feeling a bit lost as well as battling his own demons before deciding to leave.
And now, five months since the emotional exit on-screen, Peter actor Chris’ next role has been revealed, where he’s joining forces with several fellow soap stars. Chris is starring in new Channel 5 thriller, The Feud, where he will join the likes of Jill Halfpenny, Amy Nuttall and Larry Lamb to name a few. Filming has already started in Newcastle and it is set to air on Channel 5 in 2025.
Jill, 48, is known for her roles in the likes of hit soaps Coronation Street and EastEnders, as well as more recent dramas such as The Long Shadow and Liar. Meanwhile Amy, 41, is best known for playing Chloe Atkinson in Emmerdale and more recently has starred in Mr Bates vs The Post Office while Larry, 76, is known for playing Archie Mitchell in EastEnders and of course Mick Shipman in Gavin & Stacey.
The Feud sees Emma and John Barnett, played by Jill and Rupert Penry-Jones, who along with their teenage daughter Beth, played by Megan Trower, appear to live an idyllic life on Shelbury Drive. They have close friends in their neighbours, Sonia and Alan, played by Amy and Ray Fearon. They are also close with older couple, Derek and Barbara, played by James Fleet and Tessa Peake-Jones.
However, in true drama style, the close friendships in the seemingly peaceful street prove to be not quite as harmonious as they seem. A synopsis teases: “When Emma and John decide to add a kitchen extension to their house, things quickly start to spin drastically out of control.
