Coronation Street heartache as Liam Connor contemplates taking his own life

On Coronation Street, a tragic bullying plot revolves around Charlie Wrenshall’s character, Liam Connor.

This week’s Coronation Street will feature poignant scenes as Charlie Wenshall’s character Liam Connor’s bullying narrative intensifies for ITV viewers. It has been predicted by spoilers that the teenager’s situation will worsen significantly.

Liam has been having a lot of difficulties at school and is at the center of a bullying narrative. Over the past few weeks, he has been the target of a gang of nasty classmates, particularly Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) and Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan).

But as his mental state rapidly deteriorates, Liam’s suffering is expected to worsen this month. The teenager’s bullying has gotten worse over time, and he begins looking up suicide tips online.

Liam’s search history and a desperate Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon) learning the severity of the bullying—which leaves her with no choice but to transfer Liam to a new school—will be featured in the one-hour episode airing on Wednesday.

“This is a story that will have immense personal resonance for many people – it certainly did for some of the Coronation Street team,” stated Iain Macleod, Executive Producer of Continuing Drama at ITV.

“We thought it was crucial to highlight the psychological harm that bullying can inflict on its victims, particularly in the present era when kids are subjected to what can appear to be unavoidable cyberbullying. Aggression can find you even in the comforts of your own home; it doesn’t end at the school gates.

Having said that, it was also crucial that we conveyed some hope for Liam throughout the entire narrative, demonstrating that by speaking up at last, he can start to overcome his nightmare and start the healing process.

“We approached this story very carefully, consulting with a number of specialist charities, and I feel the resulting story is truthful, powerful and necessary.”

Liam feigned a note from Gary to his school stating he wouldn’t be coming in due to illness during an episode earlier in January. In actuality, though, he was too afraid to go because of the bullies.

When his mother Maria expressed her worries that Liam was being bullied, he refuted her claims and explained that he just didn’t want to go to school. Liam told the truth: “School finished early, the teacher was off ill.”

Liam’s head of year called us, so Maria, who knew he was missing school, said, “We know you weren’t in.” You haven’t visited in more than a week.
