Soap spoilers follow.
It’s been a shocking week in the soap world, as Emmerdale delivered the double whammy of Ethan’s unexpected exit and Ella’s disturbing secret.
Coronation Street also revealed its next big villain (Weatherfield always needs at least one) as the truth about Lauren’s disappearance was finally revealed.
Plenty of new spoilers for the future have been revealed while all of the drama has been kicking off this week. Here’s our Sunday round-up of the biggest news and gossip we’ve seen over the past few days.
Ella’s Emmerdale future revealed
Emmerdale delivered one of the darkest soap twists of 2024 this week, revealing that village newcomer Ella Forster is a child killer. In unsettling scenes, Ella confided in Cain about how she’d killed her only friend, Joanne, when she was 11 years old.
After Friday’s big episode aired, Digital Spy released new quotes from Emmerdale stars Paula Lane and Jonny McPherson about the storyline (click the links to read them in full).
Paula offered some new spoilers on Ella’s future, revealing that Mandy could become one of her main supporters over the next few weeks.
Meanwhile, Jonny explained the very different perspective of his character Liam, who has been cruelly triggered over his daughter Leanna’s tragic murder in 2021.
Jonny predicted that Ella’s confession marks the end of her relationship with Liam, who won’t be able to forgive her for keeping quiet about her past.
Joel’s luck could run out in Coronation Street
What a difference a few days make. At the top of the week, the biggest news to share about Corrie‘s Joel was his imminent proposal to Dee-Dee and the casting of a former Crossroads star as his mum.
By the end of the week, we knew that Joel was the ITV soap’s major new villain after his guilt in the Lauren case was revealed.
This marks a major shift for Joel’s character, but for the immediate future, he will remain as a bad guy hiding in plain sight. The viewers will know what he’s capable of, but the Weatherfield residents will be oblivious.
As well as trying to cement his future with Dee-Dee by popping the question, Joel will “kindly” offer legal advice to an unaware Bethany next week when she realises she’s the victim of credit card fraud. Friday’s cliffhanger hinted at Joel becoming obsessed with Bethany, so how much danger is she in?
Home and Away death confirmed
Major spoilers ahead for UK viewers! Home and Away had been teasing a shocking death storyline for this week’s Australian episodes and the identity of the unlucky character has now been revealed.
Stevie Marlow, who’d been introduced to the show as a guest three months earlier, was killed off after being gunned down by her stalker on the beach.
UK fans can still enjoy Stevie on their screens for a while longer, as her final scenes won’t air on Channel 5 until early July.
More drama for Home and Away’s Tane
The big stories just keep coming for Home and Away‘s Tane. Next week’s Australian-pace episodes will see him stand trial for kidnapping baby Maia – and there’s a major setback for him when the youngster’s mother backs out of testifying on his behalf.
With nothing left to lose, Tane’s solicitor suggests that he should give evidence himself – even though it’s a major risk to put him up for cross-examination from the prosecution. Again, UK viewers will have to wait until July to see these scenes.
Meanwhile, a new trailer released in Australia previewed a passionate kiss coming up for Tane and Harper. Could it be the start of a romance if Tane avoids a prison sentence?
Battle lines for the Panesars in EastEnders
It’s been a quieter week for EastEnders news while the ITV soaps aired their big weeks, but the show appears to have just set up the next chapter of major drama for the Panesars.
Nish started to win over his family members one by one this week after returning to Albert Square and announcing that he’s dying.
Thursday’s episode (May 30) saw Vinny secretly scheme with his mum Suki, which confirmed that he was only pretending to make amends with his father when they’d seemingly reconciled in an earlier scene.
The mother-son duo are in cahoots to manipulate Nish and reclaim the Panesar business empire, but spoilers for next week have revealed that it won’t be easy – with Ravi and Priya both immediately doubting Vinny’s loyalty.
Suki and Vinny also face an unexpected problem in the form of Eve, who threatens to derail their plan by confronting Vinny over his loyalty to Nish.
With so much scrutiny, can Suki and Vinny really outsmart a master manipulator like Nish?
