Rebecca Sarker, who plays Manpreet Sharma in Emmerdale, has unveiled a shocking axed storyline and hinted at a dramatic twist in the Tom King storyline. Originally, Manpreet was supposed to be a ‘gold-digging temptress,’ cheating on Rishi with his son, Jai.

However, the actress is relieved this plot was dropped. The soap star now teases that her character could be the one to expose Tom’s sinister actions. Read on to know more!

Manpreet & Jai Sharma’s Affair Storyline Dropped

Emmerdale star Rebecca Sarker excitedly disclosed that the soap axed her debut storyline. It involved her being introduced as a love interest for Rishi and potentially cheating on him with his son, Jai. She elaborated that originally, Manpreet was intended to be portrayed as a ‘gold digger’ and a ‘temptress.’

She expressed, “But I’m glad they didn’t go down that route as it gave the character more longevity.” Rebecca admitted to feeling apprehensive about the idea of her and Chris Bisson’s Emmerdale character engaging in an affair, considering their past roles as brother and sister. 

The soap star mentioned that she and Chris portrayed siblings in Coronation Street a quarter of a century ago. She recalled her time as Nita Desai from 1999 to 2000, while Chris portrayed her brother Vikram from 1999 to 2002. Then, years later, she joined Emmerdale.

For the time being, her alter-ego is in love with Charles Anderson. The actress said, “Charles is Manpreet’s hero and definitely the love of her life.” She mentioned that they had initially crossed paths during a period of extreme unhappiness in Manpreet’s previous marriage.

Emmerdale star emphasised that there was widespread encouragement for their reunion, which ultimately led to a ‘happy ending.’ Regarding the recent proposal, she clarified that Manpreet had declined it, not due to any lack of affection but because the timing wasn’t conducive. Throughout it all, Rebecca stressed that it has always been about ‘Charles for her.’

‘She’d Be The One To Expose Tom’ Says Emmerdale Actress

The Manpreet star wants her character Manpreet Sharma to join the drama with Tom King. Currently, Belle Dingle and Tom’s domestic abuse storyline is at the forefront. It started last October and got worse after the Emmerdale couple’s marriage in February.

Just recently, things got even scarier when Tom poisoned their poor dog, Piper, to manipulate his poor wife. Speaking to Inside Soap, Sarker expressed her desire for Manpreet’s involvement in the storyline. She exclaimed that she would love to have more Emmerdale scenes with James Chase (Tom).

The soap actress reflected on a previous incident in which Charles confronted Tom in the Woolpack, and Manpreet intervened. She conveyed her enjoyment of collaborating with James, highlighting Tom’s ‘layered’ character. Furthermore, she suggested ‘ringing alarm bells’ if Manpreet were to have increased interaction with the abuser.
