Coronation Street fans think they have worked out who Leanne Battersby is talking to after fearing she is falling for her mentor Rowan Cunliffe. The ITV soap character hasn’t quite been herself ever since she became swept up with Rowan and ‘The Institute’.
But as Leanne, played by Jane Danson, falls more and more under the spell of Rowan and ‘The Institute’, to which she has already given money for supplements and retreats, her sister Toyah Habeeb is growing ever closer to Leanne’s fiance Nick Tilsley.
He has supported her through her own trauma after she revealed details for the first time about the stillborn baby she lost many years ago. When Leanne failed to support her sibling, Nick stepped in and has since been baffled by his partner’s behaviour.
During Monday night’s (June 3) Corrie, fans saw Leanne arrive home late from the retreat. But she was quickly brought back down to earth with a bang when Ken Barlow revealed that the reason he was at their flat was to say goodbye to Simon Barlow.
She was horrified to discover that he was leaving Weatherfield to join his dad working on a yacht and railed at her family for not telling her. However, Nick explained how her phone was off but he had told Rowan about Simon, but he failed to pass the message on. She soon stormed off and was later in tears when she waved Simon off, with Nick and Toyah still trying to support her.
But she again ran off in tears and back at the flat, viewers saw her speaking with a mystery person on her laptop. Those watching did not see or hear who it was as they did not respond to Leanne as she told them she felt alone and that she wished she could be with them.
Taking to social media, some Corrie fans were quick to assume it was Rowan she was speaking to but others had another theory. @reploverlore said: “Oh God Leanne is in love with Rowan #Corrie.” @mikepriestley13 asked: “Is Leanne having an affair with Rowan? Is that who she was speaking too at the end of the episode? #Corrie.” But @CharJameson1980 replied: “Photo of her son who passed away I think.”
@B73Shell echoed: “I think it was a photo of Oliver.” @ifeelflames shared: “Pretty sure she was taking to Oliver there, not Rowan, but who knows #Corrie.” @Chay_Rix added: “Leanne talking to someone/something, I think this cult is using something to do with Oliver to keep her there. She’s talking to Oliver in some way #Corrie.”
