Emmerdale‘s Matty Barton was left terrified tonight as the soap kicked off his prison ordeal.
Viewers will know Matty has recently been the target of village newcomer Josh, with things coming to ahead last week at The Hide.
During their altercation, Josh shoved Samson into Matty, with Samson being accidentally stabbed by the knife Matty was holding.
Following the incident, Josh convinced Samson to tell police that Matty attacked him without provocation, with Matty’s family trying to plead with Samson to change his story,
But this only led to more trouble as Samson accused Matty of pressuring him to change his story, leading to the police taking Matty away again.
On tonight’s episode (Tuesday, June 11) Matty was seen sitting nervously in his cell before an officer informed him he was being taken to court in an hour.
Back at home, Moira arrived at Amy’s to accompany her to court. But the pair received some bad news as the police called Amy to tell her they were dropping the robbery investigation due to lack of evidence.
Later in the Woolpack, Cain was informed that Matty was being kept on remand and immediately confronted Samson who was with Lydia and Sam, leading to a massive argument.
Meanwhile, Amy and Moira watched tearfully from outside the court as Matty was taken away.
The police officer escorting him told Matty they were aware he is trans but the other inmates didn’t know.
The officer suggested Matty keep it to himself incase the other inmates give him a hard time.
The episode ended with a tearful Matty sitting in a police van as the other inmates banged on his walls asking him who he was and what he was in for.
