Coronation Street fans were left doing a double-take as they thought they had spotted a second Toyah Battersby in Weatherfield. The ITV soap character has been facing a difficult time of late following the arrival of Rowan Cunliffe and the discovery she’d given birth more than 20 years ago.

In scenes aired earlier this month, Corrie fans saw both Toyah and Nick struggling to convince Leanne to step away from her growing association with her mentor Rowan and the Institute. With their relationship in freefall, Leanne then walked out of the flat and it was Toyah who was there to comfort Nick, in more ways than one after a shock passionate clinch.

But their draw to one another has only continued. During Tuesday night’s (June 18) first visit to Weatherfield this week, it was the day of Rose’s funeral, the daughter of Toyah Battersby who was born stillborn in 2001. In April, Toyah revealed to Nick that the father of her baby girl was her rapist, Phil Simmonds, and that she had kept the pregnancy and premature birth hidden.

She had buried her daughter in a park which has since been dug up in the search for missing teenager Lauren Bolton. The police later discovered the remains were that of Toyah’s baby girl as she was questioned over what happened more than 20 years ago.

But in emotional scenes, Toyah was able to hold a funeral for Rose, only for it to be ruined by the discovery that Leanne hadn’t paid for it with her savings after all, and that it was Rowan who stumped up the cash in another attempt to silence Toyah after she refused to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) to stop talking badly about the Institute.

When Toyah later refused to back down, she was shocked to discover that she and Nick had been caught kissing by one of Rowan’s pals, which he later sent to her as another form of blackmail, but it fell short of revealing the pair had actually slept together.

However, elsewhere on the street, there were challenging times for another family as Summer Spellman walked it at completely the wrong moment following her return from the States with her new love interest Felix in tow.

Following their first meeting with Felix, Billy Mayhew and Todd Grimsahw were in the flat enjoying breakfast, while Paul Foreman was using his new Eyegaze machine to say something as his condition detoriates following his Motor Neurone Disease diagnosis.

As it played, Billy and Todd discovered that Paul really doesn’t like Felix and thinks he’s a snob. But in a bit of a glitch, he message played over and over again and continued as Felix and Summer walked in and heard it. Eventually, Billy was able to pause the machine but it was too late.

Later, when Summer arrived to speak with Paul, she wanted to know why he doesn’t like Felix. But when Paul broke down in tears, Summer was left shocked and concerned and called for Billy who returned from the bedroom to console his husband. As Paul cried, he then revealed the real reason he hasn’t warmed to Felix.

He told Billy that Summer’s new relationship made him think about her future and how he won’t be around when she gets married or has children. Desperate to protect her from getting hurt, Paul was troubled by the fact that he eventually won’t be around to look out for Summer. Paul and Summer later had a chat with him opening up about his feelings, ending in a hug.

But it appears Corrie fans were distracted during the latest emotional set of scenes as they couldn’t help but think Summer looked like Toyah following a change to her hair since coming back to Weatherfield.

@aidoo_andrea asked: “Why has Summer turned into Mini Toyah? #corrie.” @comagirlx posted: “Are we sure Summer isn’t Toyah’s wean? #Corrie.” @scripttoscene wrote: “Summer Toyah David Rowan [handshake emoji] Having the same hair style #corrie.”

@bur1000 posted: “Does anyone else think Summer looks exactly like a young Toyah?” @annemariewilliamsnz replied: “I thought it was Toyah.” @k_aaatie82 added: “I definitely thought it was Toyah at first glance!”
