Coronation Street’s Joel Deering is at risk of his ‘secrets coming out’ in upcoming scenes and fans desperately await his comeuppance after it was revealed he is behind the disappearance – and assumed death – of Lauren Bolton.
As viewers of the ITV soap know, the teen was last seen on the cobbles on February 23 after being sacked from her job at Roy’s Rolls by Roy Cropper. The café owner later visited her with her wages and some extra cash to tide her over and his kindness was later taken as evidence that he was to blame for Lauren going missing – and her death.
However, weeks later and after a number of episodes shown the same day from different characters’ perspectives during a dramatic week in May, Roy was rightfully released from prison and the truth was finally revealed – but only to those watching at home.
It was revealed in flashback scenes aired last month that Roy Cropper, as everyone already knew, was innocent after he was charged with the suspected murder of the missing teen and that it was really Joel who was her ‘secret boyfriend’ and had something to do with her sudden disappearance.
With Bethany Platt’s groomer Nathan Curtis now in the frame after new police officer Kit Green, who is also Bernie Winter’s long-lost son, planted evidence to get one up on DS Lisa Swain, Joel is able to carry on as normal and is currently preparing to tie the knot with fiancée Dee-Dee Bailey.
But fans think that he has found his next victim having come to the rescue of Max Turner’s on-off girlfriend Sabrina in a state of distress outside the police station and learnt that her brother had been arrested. Quick to offer his help, Joel handed her his business card and told her to give him a call.
During Monday night’s (June 24) episode of Corrie, Joel conveniently bumped into Sabrina in the precinct, where they both had a coffee. Joel then tempted Sabrina with alcohol as he poured some into her coffee and pretended to pour some into his cup but he didn’t.
Seemingly trying to impress Sabrina, who was a bit of love rival to Lauren when she first arrived in Weatherfield, Joel told her she reminded him of an ex, adding that he was “punching” with his former partner, leaving the teen flattered.
However, later on, Sabrina’s mate headed over and pointed out Joel was a creep, warning she should steer clear. She took his card and pretended to chuck it in the bin, only to keep it for herself. And later, viewers seemingly saw why as the currently unknown newcomer confronted Joel and tried to blackmail him, warning she has a “big gob” and would expose his creepy behaviour.
But his panic looks set to rise in Friday’s episode (June 28) as Joel’s downfall appears to be teased. Appearing on Wednesday’s This Morning, soap expert Sharon Marshall showed a teaser clip of the upcoming instalment, warning: “Oh Joel, secret’s coming out!”
In the clip, it sees Joel enjoying an engagement meal with his new fiancée Dee-Dee Bailey’s family. However, the joy is short-lived when Sabrina’s mate enters the restaurant with Amy Barlow asking if she can help her to which she replies: “I’m here to see Joel.”
Joel spins around and looks panicked as he spots the young girl he quickly makes his excuses and heads over, warning: “What are you doing here?” The moment is witnessed by Dee-Dee who looks over and seems confused. Speaking after the clip had aired, Sharon added: “Shaken, shaken! Is she going to ask questions?”
