Coronation Street star Alan Halsall told fans he was celebrating as he got himself back on the golf course after undergoing surgery last year. The actor has been keeping his fans and followers updated on social media and it was clear he was chomping at the bit to get back to his beloved hobbies.
Alan, who is famed for playing Tyrone Dobbs in the ITV soap, shared on Instagram that he was having surgery in November to fix an ACL injury. The ACL is one of two ligaments that cross in the middle of the knee, connecting your thighbone to your shinbone and helping stabilize your knee joint. In the photo shared to his Instagram page, Alan could be seen giving a thumbs up for the camera
At the time, the soap star shared a picture of himself pre-surgery and said at the time: “ACL Reconstruction surgery [tick emoji]. Well, On Friday I underwent ACL reconstruction surgery. I have been told the surgery went really well. I know I have a long 9-12 months of rehabilitation ahead of me but I’m sure with the support of family & friends I’ll get there.”
The surgery forced Alan to take a break from his Corrie role, which he has played for 25 years, as viewers saw back in December Tyrone went to see his wife Fiz for Christmas in Norfolk, where she has been working, and took the children with him. But Alan, and Jennie McAlpine who plays Fiz, have since returned to the cobbles, and Alan has continued sharing updates on his recovery, showing himself taking part in regular rehab sessions.
Taking to Instagram earlier this month, Alan shared how he’d been partaking in some virtual golf but he didn’t appear impressed with his performance. Writing alongside a picture on his Stories, the soap star said: “A whole year off and still rehabbing my knee. I’m gonna need so much help… these shots are woeful.” However, on Thursday (June 27), Alan revealed he’d made progress. Sharing a picture of the golf course and the results of the round. “I may have scored 90 but… My first full round in 1 year!! I’m celebrating!! [beers emoji].” Alongside another snap of himself in action, the 41-year-old wrote: “(Dramatic I know but I rediscovered a piece of myself again today!!”
It comes after Alan seemingly confirmed he was single again after years of dating former co-star Tisha Merry. He met Tisha, who played Steph Britton on the cobbles between 2013 to 2018, on set and they began dating shortly after she left the show. It was reported the pair had split and last month, Alan shared a humorous moment on Instagram which led him to make a dig at single life, and suggesting he might be using dating apps to find a new partner.
He shared the funny moment a playful dog attempted to mount him. He posted a picture of the dog, captioning it with a face-in-hand emoji: “Apparently we’re not best friends. Most action I’ve had in a while ffs fml.” He then shared another photo with the dog, suggesting it could be his “New Tinder profile picture”, joking about a possible return to the dating scene.
