Australian Idol star Anthony Callea in ‘endless tears’ as he reveals heartbreaking family loss: ‘It just doesn’t seem real’

Anthony Callea has shared a sad update with his fans on social media, revealing his adorable Australian Shepherd puppy Cooper has died.

The Australian Idol star, 41, shared a photo of the dog to Instagram on Thursday and captioned it with some heartbreaking words.

‘It’s with a shattered heart and an endless amount of tears, we share the news our little Cooper has tragically been taken away from us,’ Anthony began.

He added his adorable four-month-old puppy which he adopted with his actor husband Tim Campbell, 48, had died in a tragic accident.

‘Last night he was involved in an accident and was hit by a car. It just doesn’t seem real and words can’t describe the loss we are feeling. We are so very sorry little Coops, I hope you knew how much we loved you.’

Many of Callea’s celebrity friends quickly took to the comment section to offer him their condolences.

‘I am so sorry to hear Anthony and Tim. He has brought so much joy and happiness to you both. Sending you both lots of love on this sad time,’ wrote The Block star Shaynna Blaze.

‘Oh, I am so devastated for you. Sending so much love,’ added veteran presenter Melissa Doyle.

Callea and his Home and Away star husband Tim Campbell had adopted Cooper two months ago and shared a precious video to social media of them taking him home.

Anthony married Tim in 2014 after seven years of dating.

He confirmed his sexuality in 2007, three years after placing second to Casey Donovan on season two of Australian Idol.

He told fans via his website: ‘For some, ‘coming out’ isn’t a big issue. For me it was.

‘Others say you should just be honest with yourself. Well, that is easier said than done.’

‘It brought to the surface things I have put in a vault and haven’t thought about for a long time because I needed to not think about them to move forward.’

The pop star, who rose to fame on season two of the competition, revealed he actually auditioned for the first season of the show in 2003, but fled the studio, consumed by anxiety.
