Coronation Street confirms devastating news for Roy in Lauren story

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street‘s Roy Cropper receives a devastating blow next week in his bid to prove his innocence in Lauren Bolton’s murder investigation.

Roy has been on the receiving end of backlash in recent weeks, as public suspicion mounts that he may have murdered Lauren.

Next week, Roy receives yet more abuse over the phone, forcing him to retreat upstairs and hide out in the flat.

In light of the abuse, Evelyn Plummer and Shona Platt discuss ignoring the calls to the café for the foreseeable. However, Nina Lucas makes it clear that they have to answer the phone, as Roy is eagerly awaiting a call from Lauren’s mum Kerry, after Roy reached out to her recently.

Meanwhile, Stu Carpenter tells Yasmeen and Alya Nazir of his decision to try and clear his friend’s name, noting his own history of being wrongly accused of murder.

The plan backfires when Stu is attacked with a brick by a homeless man who runs off with his wallet.

Later, Roy is horrified to learn that Hayley Cropper’s son Christian has posted some hurtful comments about Roy and his relationship with Hayley online.

Roy is surprised when a woman calls at the café and introduces herself as Lauren’s mum Kerry. It soon becomes clear that Kerry has ulterior motives, as she secretly films Roy’s living room during the night, making him out to be a murderer.

Roy receives a further shock when Lauren’s mum calls him to tell him not to contact her again. When he explains the call to Shona and Nina, they all realise they’ve been taken in by a fraud.

The woman posing as Kerry reveals she’s actually called Alice, and she believes Roy is guilty of murder.

Things go from bad to worse for Roy when Alice publicly confronts him and starts filming him. As Roy tries to stop her, Alice trips and bumps her head. Roy is horrified when Alice accuses him of assault.

Unfortunately, the worst is yet to come for Roy when he’s formally charged with Lauren’s murder and is locked up in a prison cell.
