Coronation Street legend Andy Whyment has been supported by fans after issuing a four-word message on social media.
The star, who has played Kirk Sutherland in the long-running ITV soap for a huge 24 years, has shared an Instagram update as a controversial storyline continues to play out on our screens. As viewers will know, Roy Cropper has been charged with the murder of runaway teenager Lauren Bolton.
On Monday evening fans saw Roy refused bail, meaning he will be remanded in police custody until the case goes to trial. Roy is facing a huge prison sentence and the plot has not gone down well with many fans.
Coronation Street has even created “Roy Cropper is innocent” t-shirts, which have been worn by a number of cast members and other celebrities. And on Tuesday, Andy shared a selfie as he became the latest to don a t-shirt in support of Roy’s freedom.
Sharing the snap on Instagram, he simply said: “I’m with you Roy!” Fans have rushed to the post’s comments section to have their say.
Karen said: “Yes Andy. We need a protest at the courthouse” and Nancy said: “This is wonderful”. Cameron said: “Yeah I absolutely so totally agree with you there mate. We certainly do really need to free Roy”.
