Coronation Street officially confirms return of evil Nathan Curtis

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street has confirmed the return of Bethany Platt’s evil abuser Nathan Curtis.

The disappearance of Lauren Bolton has resulted in many shock twists, including the bizarre arrest of Roy Cropper in recent weeks. Now, the spotlight is being shone in an another direction as Nathan (played by Chris Harper) returns to the cobbles.

Bethany (played by Lucy Fallon) spots Nathan lurking at the reconstruction of Lauren’s last known movements and her mind is thrown into overdrive.

Initially believing Nathan was still behind bars, she is shocked to discover he was released from prison some time ago and is working on a building site nearby.

Knowing his history with young girls, Bethany worries that Nathan could be behind Lauren’s suspected murder. Determined to get some justice for Lauren, Bethany is forced to confront her abuser.

But are her suspicions correct? With Roy behind bars awaiting trial for murder and Nathan adamant that he’s changed since his time in prison, is the real predator still at large?

Or has Nathan, the master manipulator, returned to his old ways?

Harper admitted he felt “emotional” about Nathan’s return, reflecting on the impact of his last appearance on the show.

“During the 18 months he was in it before, hundreds of people shared with me how the storyline reflected something they, or someone they loved, had lived through. It remains important to keep them in mind as we continue Bethany’s story.

“Once again, I am grateful for the ongoing support of Barnardo’s, NSPCC, S.H.E.UK, and all the people who trusted me last time. We have another chance to raise an issue that affects so many lives, so often shrouded in shame.”

Harper also revealed that he’s glad to be back in Weatherfield, as he loved playing Nathan. “He is funny, deceitful, slippery, manipulative and ruthless. Now he is also under a lot of pressure too. This new storyline is absolutely full of twists.”
