Joel Deering is facing a bit of trouble in Coronation Street next week as the residents of Weatherfield still remain none the wiser that he is behind Lauren Bolton’s disappearance – and suspected murder.
Dee-Dee and Ed Bailey meet up with Joel’s parents, Anthea and Gus, for lunch in the bistro. Anthea apologises for their earlier behaviour and Dee-Dee’s pleasantly surprised. But when Amy Barlow lets slip that Joel and Dee-Dee are engaged, Anthea and Gus are taken aback.
Meanwhile, Sabrina Adetib’s mate reckons Joel’s a creep and she should steer well clear and Sabrina realises she’s been naïve. But later, while Dee-Dee gets ready for their engagement lunch, Joel furtively takes a call from Sabrina’s mate, telling him he has to meet her or he’ll regret it. What do they want?
Elsewhere, Gemma Winter finds herself on the wrong side of the law and unknowingly comes face-to-face with her half-brother. It starts as the mum’s day goes from bad to worse as Carys desperately needs new shoes, she gets a £70 parking fine in the post.
She takes Carys to the shoe shop to get her feet measured but the shoes are £45, leaving Gemma is gutted. Making a spare-of-the-moment decision, while the assistant is distracted, Gemma grabs Carys’ hand and they flee the shop without paying.
Back at home, when Bernie sees the shoes she asks how Gemma afforded them. Meanwhile, Chesney is serving up kebabs for Joseph’s delighted schoolmates who are around for dinner but she gets a shock when she sees one of the dads who has come to collect his son.
Later, Kit Green is shocked to see Gemma being brought into the police station having been arrested for stealing the shoes. With Gemma not knowing Kit is Bernie’s secret son, her mum begs him to do what he can to secure Gemma’s release.
