Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Coronation Street star Alex Bain has updated fans on his exit from the soap.
It was recently reported that Alex would be signing off from his role as Simon Barlow after 16 years on the cobbles.
Alex was initially silent on the exit rumours, but has now addressed them in a series of Instagram Stories filmed on set (via The Mirror).
Alongside the photo of his dressing room mirror, Alex wrote: “Well my day is done! Nice and short day today! I’m gonna miss this little space [so] dearly when I go!”
“So glad I’ve got some shooting days left! So thankful,” he added.
The soap has not yet clarified when Alex will be departing Weatherfield, but his character Simon has been in trouble of late.
Simon confessed to driving with young Sam Blakeman while he was under the influence of alcohol, leaving a huge strain on his relationship with mum Leanne Battersby’s partner Nick Tilsley.
His guilty plea meant Simon avoided jail time and instead was sentenced to 80 hours of community service, as well as a six-month driving ban.
Simon has attempted to turn his life around by seeking guidance from a group known as The Institute and its charismatic leader Rowan Cunliffe.
As time goes on, viewers will learn that this group is a cult – as part of an issue-based storyline that Ben Price, who plays Nick, has said reflects the reality many face.
“It happens, so I think it’s very topical. Look how many things are on Netflix about this. I think what’s good about the story is that actually, it doesn’t take much for you to start believing something,” Ben said.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
