Coronation Street‘s Andy Whyment has shut down a social media user who made a jibe about his brand-new Kia car.
Uploading a shot of himself shaking a salesman’s hand outside Bolton’s Kia dealership on Instagram yesterday (April 18), the actor, who plays Kirk Sutherland on the show, penned a thank-you note for all the staff there.
“New car day, thanks to @lee_ablett1974 and the team @bolton_kia for fantastic service as always,” the caption read.
However, one of Whyment’s followers decided to troll his purchase in the comment section, writing: “I’d of thought with all yr money you’d of had a decent car!”.
Sticking up for the car manufacturer, the soap star directly replied: “Kia’s are a decent car, and I don’t earn as much as you probably think I do,” with a thumbs-up emoji tagged onto the end.
Another social media user defended Whyment, writing: “What kind of comment is that, if he wants a three wheel Robin Reliant or a Rolls Royce leave him alone, he’s a lovely man and the car you drive doesn’t have to reflect your lifestyle.”
Later on, Andy replied to another user with his first impressions of the car after driving it home, saying that he and his wife Nichola were “very happy with it”.
Whyment joined Coronation Street in the year 2000, and reiterated his long-term commitment to the show following his appearance on I’m a Celebrity… South Africa last year.
“I grew up watching it as a kid and when I drive up to those barriers in the morning and they lift them up, I think ‘I’m still working on Coronation Street‘,” he said.
“If I’d told myself growing up I’d be there 23 years… it’s amazing and touch wood many more years to come.”
