Coronation Street to explore aftermath of Liam Connor’s bullying ordeal

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street will further explore the aftermath of Liam Connor’s terrifying bullying ordeal next week, as the teenager continues to deal with mental health difficulties.

Liam’s bully Mason Radcliffe has now been jailed for threatening him with a knife last year, while accomplice Dylan Wilson has apologised for his role in the bullying. However, Liam is still struggling to deal with the trauma that he was put through for months.

Liam has already been put on a waiting list to receive professional counselling following the suicidal thoughts that he has experienced, but his mum Maria Connor has been left concerned about how long her son will have to wait to get the help he needs.

In scenes due to air on Wednesday, May 1 and Friday, May 3, Maria and her husband Gary Windass discuss the possibility of enrolling Liam in private therapy instead, so that he can access support sooner.

Gary suggests that they could sell the factory to fund the sessions. But when Liam overhears their conversation, he’s left deeply troubled by the situation.

Later in the week, Liam searches online to find ways to deal with anxiety, and he ends up looking at information about the drug diazepam. Will he decide to take matters into his own hands?

Liam later heads off for his judo class, and he’s glad to get some company when Joseph Brown arrives for the class too. Could this mark a turning point for Liam?

Antony Cotton, who plays Dylan’s dad Sean Tully, has confirmed that Mason’s imprisonment doesn’t mark the end of the long-running bullying storyline, with the aftermath set to span the rest of the year.

“This is only the beginning,” he confirmed, adding that “Corrie is not real life but it’s supposed to hold a mirror up, so it’s been really satisfying and this is only the beginning of it. We’ve got this [storyline] for the rest of the year.”

The bullying storyline has also prompted a big house move for Sean and Dylan, as well as sparking anxiety for Maria, who’s been secretly spying on Liam via a hidden camera.
