Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Coronation Street‘s Bernie Winter resorts to lying about the ‘death’ of her son Paul Foreman in Wednesday’s episode (May 1).
Bernie makes the desperate decision when she finds out that Paul’s dad Denny has arrived in Weatherfield.
Earlier this week, Denny listened to Paul’s radio interview with Amy Barlow and was surprised to discover that his son had been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
In the show’s latest episode, Denny surprises Bernie by confronting her outside the café. He immediately rebukes her for not letting him know about their son’s diagnosis.
Although shocked to see Denny and be put on the spot like this, Bernie thinks quickly by lying that Paul is already dead.
Bernie makes out that the interview was an old recording, but Denny is sceptical.
Before long, Denny follows Bernie up to the flat that Paul shares with his husband Billy Mayhew.
Paul and his twin sister Gemma are stunned to see their father back in their lives after such a long time.
Denny can’t resist exposing Bernie’s lie by quipping that Paul looks great for someone who was supposedly already dead.
Bernie despairs over the situation, but there seems to be more than just distrust of Denny that’s driving her desperation. Why is she so keen to keep Denny away?
Peter Ash, who plays Paul, recently confirmed that his character will ultimately give Denny a chance. He’s prepared to forgive his father, even though the villain was violent towards him when he was a child.
