Coronation Street star Sally Ann Matthews has been supported by fans as she shared news of her next challenge. Back in 2022, the actress set out to run 50 5ks, raising money for five different charities.
She set herself the challenge around her 50th birthday despite admitting to ‘never being remotely sporty’. She was then later joined by a number of her co-stars outside the Corrie set in Media City, Salford, as she finished her final 5km.
Then in May last year, she pledged her support to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) in which she had to run a mile a day to raise funds for the charity. And now, the challenge has returned for May 2024.
Taking to Instagram, Sally Ann shared a smiling selfie as she set out on one of her first runs of the month. The soap star, who plays Jenny Connor in the ITV soap, said: “It’s cheesy grin time again! I’m running a mile a day in May to raise funds for @rnli whilst hopefully shedding a few….”
She then added: “I’d be chuffed if you’d sponsor a quid or two x #maydaymile,” and her fans and followers were quick to share their messages of support in the comments section.
@payntes said: “Amazing you got this girl.” @slessorandrea commented: “Amazing well done Sally.” @joyspence876 wrote ” You got this Sally Ann.” @cra.885 replied: “Well done u.” And the RNLI’s social media team added: “Thanks Sally! We hope you enjoy the challenge.”
Meanwhile, Sally Ann recently revealed who she’d play on the cobbles if she wasn’t playing Jenny – because they’re her ‘husband’s favourite’. She now plays the now-Rovers Return landlady but actually became a young star of the cobbles when she joined the soap at the age of 16.
