Coronation Street’s Tony Maudsley gets cheeky response from co-star over unrecognisable role before soap

Coronation Street star Tony Maudsley

Coronation Street star Tony Maudsley got a cheeky reaction from his co-star after sharing an almost-unrecognisable photo of himself from one of his many roles before joining the show. Fans currently know the actor for portraying George Shuttleworth in the ITV soap.

He arrived on the street when he began doing business with Preston’s Petals after taking over Shuttleworth’s Independent Funeral Directors after his father, Archie Shuttleworth, died. Then in January 2021, George and Gail Platt discovered that they shared great-great grandparents, Augustus and Fanny Page.

And while many will recognise Tony for the role of Weatherfield’s own undertaker, many still can’t shake off his past acting credits, particularly that of hairdresser Kenneth Du Beke in the hit ITV sitcom Benidorm, a role he played from 2011 to 2018.

But that being said, Tony’s acting career started in film when he landed a role in, A Life for a Life, in 1998 where he played the part of Stefan Kiszko and some fans may not know that he also bagged a major role when he appeared in Harry Potter’s fifth blockbuster instalment, The Order of the Phoenix.

Tony played Hagrid’s giant half-brother, Grawp, that he brings back from his travels. And Tony says it was one of the toughest roles of his career. He previously told Female First: “I was weighed down with these huge monster feet that were so heavy, that I could never get into the canteen and back in time.” But it was his role in Sleepy Hallow that Tony was remembered with some throwback snaps on social media in which he didn’t appear like the suited and booted George we see him as on Corrie today. He simply captioned the snap of himself in character: “SLEEPY HOLLOW – 1998.”

And Corrie co-star Sue Cleaver, who plays on-screen partner Eileen Grimshaw in the long-running show, was quick to respond as she cheekily commented: “You still look like that on a Monday,” before adding a crying laughing emoji and a love heart eyes emoji.

His fans and followers also started to react to the new post. @glen.irwin.west.ham.utd said: “Brilliant pic.” @jbstag44 wrote: “Good film. I’m now going to rewatch this.” @gabrielle2425 quipped: “Oh dear Kenneth had a bad day.” @lizc.57 added: “HE’S AN AMAZING ACTOR.”
