Toyah – played by Georgia Taylor – was overjoyed when she found out she was pregnant,
but later, she actually found out she had ovarian cancer. Understandably, the news
devastated her and she was supported by Nick amid her heartbreaking health news.
Fans, though, have been puzzled by where Toyah’s mum Janice has been – including given that her stepdaughter Leanne is also being sucked into The Institute, where she has been ploughing money and her time into Rowan’s ‘business’.
However, it has now been explained why Janice – who was played by Vicky Entwistle – was not back to see her daughter given her diagnosis. When Leanne questioned whether Toyah had told Janice, she revealed she didn’t want to get her mum involved as she wanted to be able to focus it on her own and get through it herself.

Meanwhile, Georgia Taylor has opened up about the tough storyline for her character.
Speaking to The Mirror, she said: “To be told you have cancer are the words nobody wants to hear. It’s particularly awful for Toyah. We have seen her get the news she has always wanted – ‘You are pregnant’ – to then later be told, ‘You have ovarian cancer’.
“It is so painful for Toyah and she is understandably very upset. I have seen people who have had cancer and don’t want everyone to panic either – Toyah is the same as she faces up to her operation but behind closed doors, she does break down in tears. She is fearful about what the future holds and worries if she will even be around still.”
Toyah hasn’t had the support of her sister Leanne, as she has been so wrapped up with the Institute.

“It’s really stressful for Toyah because rather than her sister be there for her, Leanne removes herself from the situation. It leaves Toyah feeling like her sister doesn’t want to support her. Thankfully Nick is very much there for her and it brings them even closer together,” she explained of what kind of support Toyah had from her family.
Explaining why Toyah is so stoic about her diagnosis, she said: “Toyah remains quite stoic about her diagnosis and what lies ahead. She wants to be strong and doesn’t want to worry those closest to her. I have seen people who have had cancer and don’t want everyone to panic either – Toyah is the same as she faces up to her operation but behind closed doors, she does break down in tears. She is fearful about what the future holds and worries if she will even be around still.”
