Theories about Ella Forster (Paula Lane) have been flying around since she arrived in Emmerdale – is she somehow linked to Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu)? Is she somehow related to Tom King (James Chase)?

Well, one mystery is about to be cleared up, and it’s actually kind of heartbreaking for the receptionist.

She has struck up a cute little romance with her GP boss Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson), and things have started moving pretty quickly for the pair.

Now they’re at the point where Liam invites Ella over to stay, but she is strangely not keen – possibly because she’s afraid of things moving a million miles an hour, and possibly because she’s hiding a secret.

Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) is the one to uncover the sad secret completely by accident the next morning. While out on a walk, she is shocked to find Ella sleeping in her car – she’s homeless.

Ella is utterly mortified and begs Manpreet to keep her circumstances to herself. But it’s not long before Liam finds out. Could this end their relationship before it’s begun?

Quite the opposite as Liam has a proposition for her – that she moves into his spare room.

The puzzle is partially solved – no wonder she’s been acting weird. But why is she homeless? When Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) probes about her family, Ella snaps at her, leaving Mandy confused.

Then when the photographer who’s arrived for the fete wants to take their photos, Ella flat refuses, legging it before she can be snapped. It’s getting weirder.

Mandy’s interest is piqued, and she gives Liam a warning – find out what skeletons Ella has hanging in her closet before he lets things go too far. Liam heeds her word and starts digging at Ella, who balks at his questions and runs out of the house.
