Emmerdale star Beth Cordingly addresses mixed reactions to Ruby

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale star Beth Cordingly has addressed the mixed reaction to her character, Ruby Fox-Milligan.

The star joined the ITV soap earlier this year, with Ruby getting off to a fiery start as she has clashed with both estranged husband Caleb and the Dingle family.

The character’s forthright demeanour has attracted mixed reviews thus far, with Cordingly speaking to Inside Soap about the situation.

“[My family] think she’s pretty awful. After the dinner party scene where Ruby got drunk and was horrible to everybody, my dad was very concerned I’d get trolled. I don’t really look at social media… Everyone is entitled to their opinion.”

Cordingly, who has also appeared on The Bill and Casualty, also shared her own opinion on the character, saying: “I think she’d be fiercely loyal and fight for you, and would be a laugh to hang out with, but I’d avoid mixing her with other groups of people in your life.

“You’d probably see the way she behaves in a very different light and it would make you cringe. I don’t think she’s evil, just incredibly impulsive. I also think she’s a functioning alcoholic, and whenever she has a white wine on the go in the Woolpack she often goes off the rails on people.”

Whilst Cordingly is settling in on the soap, there could be an exit on the way as Zoe Henry spoke about her future plans as Rhona Goskirk, with the character facing the prospect of jail time.

“She wouldn’t cope with it very well – who would? I think it’s the panic of feeling she’s losing her children,” she said. “There’s panic about Rhona’s marriage to Marlon because she’s put him through a lot and he’s not been a well man himself.”
