Emmerdale star confirms huge change as character is ‘brought back down to her roots’

Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) surprised us all in Emmerdale recently when she started

showing an interest in Vinny Dingle (Bradley Johnson).

At first, Gabby spent time with Vinny because she knew he was feeling lonely. When Vinny discovered she was only hanging out with him out of pity though, he snapped and felt hurt.

Afterwards, the two friends agreed to move past the awkward incident but as Mandy (Lisa Riley) watched on she smirked, knowing there was definitely something bubbling away between them both.

The two characters continued to spend time with each other and to our surprise, they’re now an item.

Seeing Vinny from a romantic perspective certainly came as a shock to Gabby. Her little boy Thomas is also the child of Jamie Tate, Kim’s horrible son.

Reflecting on this and how her new storyline takes Gabby away from life at Home Farm, actress Rosie Bentham told us: ‘I think it’s good. It’s a bit of a different pairing for Gabby. She’s normally going for kind of a bad boy. It’s something different. They’re like polar opposites but I think it could work.

‘I think he might soften Gabby a little bit, bring her back down to her roots of Ashley and Laurel and all that kind of homely vibes.’

‘It’s really nice’, she added, reflecting on Gabby spending more time with Laurel.

‘Getting to work with Charlotte again a lot more and it’s really nice. She gets involved with Laurel and Jai’s relationship. And having all the kids around and stuff. It’s different, it feels very different but it’s really nice.’

Joining Rosie for the chat was Bradley Johnson. He pondered over Vinny’s new romance and revealed – to no one’s shock – that Mandy’s going to be quite involved in her son’s venture into the world of romance.

‘She’s quite involved with it. She’s realised that Vinny’s been down over the Liv stuff and she’s had a word with Gabby a few times, to improve his confidence. That’s what started it off, really. She wanted Vinny to have a friend and because of Liv, Gabby was Liv’s best friend. That’s how it all started.

‘But Mandy’s got a tendency to get too involved with stuff and that’s what kind of starting it off on the bad foot by Vinny getting the wrong idea of what Gabby’s intentions were.’

‘I’ve loved the storyline and the way they’re writing for both of them, bringing Vinny’s geekiness back out of him’, Bradley smiled.

‘It’s been so fun and there’s a lot of comedic elements in it. I’m really enjoying it. It can show the light and the dark side of the relationship – obviously what they’re going through now, but if they come through the other end and they become happy, I think it could work.’
