Emmerdale star makes emotional speech as he quits ITV soap after three years

Emmerdale star Emile John left fans and co-stars devastated when his character Ethan Anderson was killed off in a shock twist this week – and now he has broken his silence

Emmerdale actor Emile John has broken his silence after quitting the ITV soap.

Emile played Ethan Anderson for three years in the Dales, but on Tuesday (May 28), his character died after being hit by a car driven by Ruby Fox Milligan and sustaining injuries. Though Ethan managed to limp back to the village and assure people he was fine – but he later collapsed.

Now the actor has spoken about his final scenes in a sweet video, telling viewers: “Good evening guys. If you’re watching this, it unfortunately means that Ethan Anderson has passed away, and therefore means he will no longer be in the village.

“I just want to say a huge thank you to all the cast and all the crew that I have worked with over these three years. It’s absolutely flown by. A lot of the cast have just taken me under their wing. It’s been such a ride, such a journey, and one that I’ve really learned so much on.

“I feel extremely privileged to have entered this industry working on such an iconic show. I honestly had the time of my life! Sharing the space with such talented folk on and off screen for the last few years has been a huge honour and an experience that’ll stay with me always.

“Huge thank you to those of you who have been invested in any of my storylines throughout my time on the show, seeing your reactions and opening important conversations have made it all the more worth it!”

His co-star Kevin Mathurin – who plays Ethan’s dad Charles – was among the first to wish him all the best, writing: “It has been bittersweet as our best work together was your curtain call. You killed it, bro. I’m so proud of you. All the best for your future.”

Dawn Fletcher star Olivia Bromley added: “Onwards!” with a row of clapping emojis, while Vanessa Woodfield actress Michelle Hardwick penned: “Good luck lovely!” Laura Norton, who plays Kerry Wyatt on the soap, echoed her good luck message.
