Emmerdale Tom’s abusive behaviour to Belle ‘will help viewers’, claims expert

EXCLUSIVE Tom King has continued to demonstrate his menacing behaviour in ITV’s Emmerdale as he makes Belle’s life a living nightmare. But an expert says his antics could help fans

Emmerdale’s harrowing storyline involving Belle and her husband Tom King could help viewers “understand signs of controlling behaviour”, a relationship expert has claimed.

Fan favourite Belle, played by actress Eden Taylor-Draper, and her husband Tom, played by Mark Flanagan, are not even six months into their marriage. But already Tom’s behaviour has become increasingly unbearable, leaving Belle unsure of what to do.

After tying the knot, Tom has been suffocating Belle by trying to control her every move. He’s also been violent, as he recently hit Vinny over the head when he deemed his relationship with Belle was too close.

But relationship expert and Wingman founder Tina Wilson believes Tom’s obsessive characteristics could help viewers to spot any worrying signals in their own lives. Tina shared her thoughts with Daily Star.

As Tom continues to cause trouble in Belle Dingle’s life, the show gives viewers a chance to think about their own situations.
Watching Belle struggle with Tom’s control might hit home for viewers going through similar things, making them notice warning signs and reach out for support if they need it. Through Belle’s story, Emmerdale can shed light on the complexities of abusive relationships and encourage viewers to put their own well-being first.”

Tina also gave advice on what people can do if they feel they could be in a similar situation in their relationship. She continued: “Speak to friends and family to see if they feel something is amiss.

“Opening up to a friend can be the first step in the process who can help you navigate this situation and provide love and support. Ultimately, seeing Belle and Tom’s relationship can help viewers spot unhealthy patterns in their own lives and move towards healthier, safer relationships.”

She also highlighted the support available to viewers at the end of the show. She said: “The programmes with the heavy story lines always have helplines at the end which you can contact and may help the viewer take the next step and not feel so alone.”
