Emmerdale’s Dean Andrews reveals he married his wife Helen on his 60th birthday after she told him she wouldn’t marry him if he was any older

Emmerdale star Dean Andrews has revealed how he married his wife Helen on his 60th birthday after she told him she wouldn’t marry someone older than that.

The actor, who plays Will Taylor on the ITV soap, tied the knot with his long-term partner last year.

Beauty salon owner Helen told Dean she wanted to marry him before he turned 60 and they managed to say ‘I do’ on his birthday.

Speaking to The Mirror, he said: ‘We never found time to get wed. And then Helen said: ‘I won’t marry someone over 60.’ So I thought. ‘I better get that sorted.’.

‘People did say ‘Deano, why get married at 60?’ but I’m happy to have found love with such a wonderful woman and [wanted to] celebrate that.’

The wedding was a long time coming for the couple who have been together since they met at a mutual friend’s 40th birthday two decades ago.

Dean recalled: ‘She had recently separated and I had also recently separated. I saw her at this party and thought she was a rather attractive lady, so it wasn’t too difficult for me to ask if she’d like a drink. As for the big event? ‘It was a brilliant day.’

It comes after the actor revealed he has had a major health scare and had to be taken to hospital for surgery in February.

Dean, who is also known for his role as DS Ray Carling on Life On Mars, took to Instagram to share a snap from his hospital bed.

Reassuring fans with a smile and a thumb up, Dean wore a hospital gown and had a canula in his hand.

Dean did not detail what procedure he had done but thanked staff at Sheffield’s Thornbury hospital.

He wrote: ‘Surgery went well. Very happy to have woken up. Many thanks to my surgeon Chris and all the staff.’

Fans were quick to take to the comments to wish the ITV star a speedy recovery with one writing: ‘Get well soon’.
