Emmerdale star Roxy Shahidi is embarking on a new project with former co-star Matthew Wolfenden.

Roxy, who plays Leyla Harding, and Matthew, who up until last year appeared as David Metcalfe on the ITV soap, have released a podcast called Celebrity Side Hustles.

The series sees them “delve behind the scenes to chat with celebrity guests about everything”, including “how they got to where they are now, life off-screen as well as their incredible, surprising and inspiring inner passions” or “side hustles”.

Announcing the news in a joint Instagram post, which also included a teaser clip, Matthew wrote: “Mine and @roxyshahidi’s brand new podcast ‘Celebrity Side Hustle’ has just dropped!! Listen (and watch) on Apple Podcast now!”

Their first guest is fellow Emmerdale star Jessie Elland (Chloe Harris), who is due to release her debut book The Ladie Upstairs next year.

“We were so thrilled to interview the uber talented @jessieelland about her ‘Side Hustle’ – her new book THE LADIE UPSTAIRS – which is out soon,” the actor added. “BTW – The podcast will be available on all platforms very soon.”

Matthew bowed out as David Metcalfe last November, and explained beforehand why it “feels like the right time” to say goodbye to the show.

“I’m so nervous about leaving, almost two decades,” he told This Morning.

“The door’s left open, they’re not killing me off, I’ve been promised,” the star added. “I’m allowed to tell you that. So who knows, I might be back, we will see.”

Celebrity Side Hustles is available to stream online now. Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
