Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Former Coronation Street star Vicky Entwistle has responded to rumours of a dark turn in Toyah Battersby’s rape storyline.
Last month, it was reported that the ITV soap is set to reveal a twist in Toyah’s horrific sexual assault at the hands of Phil Simmonds. Following the 2001 rape, viewers are set to discover that Toyah got pregnant and the baby was stillborn, leaving her to ultimately decide to bury her child in a park.

The Red Rec park is seemingly due to be dug up for development, reportedly leaving Toyah fearing the discovery of her baby’s remains.
Commenting on the new development, which is yet to be confirmed by the soap’s bosses, Entwistle voiced her disappointment. The actress, known for playing Toyah’s mother Janice until 2011, took to Twitter/X and tagged her onscreen husband Bruce Jones, who played Les Battersby on the show.
“Well we tried to make our moments as real as they could possibly be, didn’t we?! @Brucejonesnew I guess we failed,” Entwistle wrote. “Who knew digging up dead babies would become the highlight of ITV’s tea time slot!!!”

Entwistle isn’t the only one who’s been left puzzled at the rumoured storyline, with many fans pointing out that Toyah’s pregnancy wouldn’t be consistent with scenes shown in the aftermath of the sexual assault.
“Toyah’s storyline has been heavily retconned,” one fan wrote on Twitter/X, weighing in on the backlash. “What’s played out on screen is now being contradicted.”
