EMMERDALE fans are not happy with soap bosses as they accused them of ‘forgetting’ a vital character.

Recent storylines have focussed on Belle and Tom’s abusive relationship and Matty’s controversial prison stint.

But fans think that bosses have completely forgotten about the Sugden family, and one member in particular.

Katie Hill, 21, has played the role of Sarah Sugden since 2017 after she replaced Sophia Amber Moore.

The infamous family was the original focus of the ITV soap when it made its debut in 1972.

But over the years, their numbers have dwindled, and viewers think the role of Sarah in particular deserves better treatment.

One Emmerdale fan took to social media site Reddit in a rage at soap execs for not giving the star more attention in a new thread.

They wrote: “When is it time for Katie Hill (Sarah) to have an another sl (storyline) again?

“Like seriously she’s had like only two sls and after that she hasn’t had a sl of her own in years, Katie is a great actress and has a lot of potential to have more sls of her own but doesn’t have a lot of screen time.”

And it seems that other viewers are in complete agreement as they responded to the comments in droves.

A second fan noted: “They don’t even touch on the fact that both her parents have deserted her, and she’s largely brought herself up as her grandmother is always mid crisis.”

Whilst a third wrote: “The writers clearly don’t know what to do with her.

“There could be an interesting story there – how a young person copes when they have a life-limiting condition and how the knowledge of that inevitably affects everyday life – but so far they’ve done nothing with it.”

Back in 2011, Sarah was diagnosed with a rare genetic disease called Fanconi Anaemia and was told she needed a bone marrow transplant to save her life.

But in 2017, more health woes struck as Sarah was diagnosed with throat cancer and headed to Prague for treatment, but despite it’s initial success, it was later revealed that she was suffering from heart failure as a very rare side-effect of the chemo.

However, other viewers are more optimistic about her character in the future, and they defended the writers as setting the scenes of her life.

It’s probably not her turn for another big storyline for another few months.

One fan noted: “They probably have something lined up for her in the future.

“In her young life so far she’s had a couple of biggies connected to her medical condition including being the instigator in the introduction of Chloe, so it’s probably not her turn for another big storyline for another few months.”

As another stated: “I do like seeing her at the garage with her grandad and step farther as it reminds me of a young Debbie but with out a young child as she is nearly 20 and not had a kid.”
