Eden Taylor-Draper has expressed her heartfelt appreciation for being nominated for the Serial Drama Performance prize at the 2024 NTAs. Her portrayal of Belle Dingle, who has been enduring a harrowing domestic abuse storyline, has captivated audiences and earned her this significant recognition. The storyline has focused on Belle’s harrowing experience with her abusive husband, Tom King, who has subjected her to months of manipulation and control. Tom’s cruel tactics even included leading Belle to believe that her beloved dog, Piper, had been killed in a hit-and-run, though it was later revealed that Tom had staged Piper’s death to further torment Belle.
In response to the nomination, Eden shared her gratitude, saying, “It feels amazing and I’m honored. I’m up against some incredible names like Angela Winter from EastEnders, Yolande Truman, Peter Ash from Coronation Street, Denise Fox, and David Neilsen as Roy Cropper in Coronation Street.” She expressed her satisfaction that Belle’s intense storyline has received so much attention, emphasizing, “The aim of these storylines is to raise awareness. From the start, I’ve said that if it helps even just one person, that would mean everything to me. Seeing the storyline resonate with so many people and bring this issue to light is truly rewarding.”
Eden also reflected on the real-world impact of the storyline, revealing how moved she is by the stories viewers have shared with her. “It’s incredible to hear people’s personal experiences and how they’ve managed to come out the other side. It’s such an honor that they trust me with their stories. I’m grateful that we’re representing these issues accurately.”
Looking ahead, Eden is excited about attending the awards ceremony, though she admits to feeling a bit nervous. She plans to bring her mother as her guest, which adds a personal touch to the occasion. “I’m really looking forward to it. I haven’t attended any awards with my mom since I was about ten, so it’s a special moment for us. She’s been a huge support throughout my early career, and I’m incredibly thankful for her help.”
Soap bosses have confirmed that the Belle and Tom storyline will continue through the end of the year, with Eden hinting at more dramatic developments to come. Stay tuned for more updates as the storyline unfolds and as the awards ceremony approaches!
