Home and Away has been going for 36 years, so you can imagine that fans sometimes get fed up with some of the more absurd storylines. At the moment, some viewers are feeling frustrated with the soap, with one saying it “needs a shake up” because of the “ridiculous” places writers are taking the show.
In particular, fans have a bone to pick with Eden Fowler, played by Stephanie Panozzo. For starters, one viewer is unhappy that Eden doesn’t appear to have a job and won’t stop sticking her nose in other people’s business.
“Please can the writers give Eden a job? Seriously, she’s such a good actress but it’s doing my head in watching her get involved in other people’s stuff. I’m about to give up watching,” the fan griped in a Facebook fan group.
Her complaint sparked a lively discussion, with one asking: “Exactly, how do they all pay their rent and bills?”
“I’ve never disliked a character so much. Sticking her nose in everyone’s business, getting involved in stuff that doesn’t involve her, pulling her face when Cash has to work and scrounging off everyone. Not keen on her,” another agreed.
“Also they just give up their jobs at the drop of a hat. Cash didn’t know whether he wanted to accept the bodyguard job although he was out of work, then Levi now leaves his well-paid job without any discussion, and don’t get me started on Roo sticky beaking!” a third wrote.
“I am so over Eden. She’s very needy and annoying lol,” another remarked.
Home and Away fans threaten to boycott the show
Other fans pointed out that the show is starting to feel tired after 36 years of Summer Bay. One wrote a passionate comment about how new locations and different characters need to be introduced to make it feel fresh.
“A pub, a diner and police station or surfboard shop to work at and that’s where it ends. Oh, the gym too, but [you] don’t hear of [that] being open much any more,” she wrote. “[We need the] high school back to get teachers and students etc to make [it] interesting. It’s all about who gets with who, and who’s going to die or get kidnapped. Same stories over and over.
“[We need] the writers to give it an overhaul. Listen to us, the viewers, we are begging for better stories.”
Other controversial opinions include fans criticising cast members’ acting abilities, viewers calling for new writers, and some admitting they’d already stopped watching.
“Time for some major changes on this show. Now to get rid of the cast,” another wrote.
