Stevie comes to see Cash in a limo and makes it clear that nobody says no to her. She explains that she doesn’t feel safe anymore and she can’t keep living like this, afraid of the entire world and constantly walking on eggshells. She needs someone she can trust – and she wants that someone to be Cash.
Cash is reluctant at first but says he’ll agree – on the condition that she follow his rules so he can do his job and protect her as best he can. With that, Cash takes her on her offer: from now on, protecting Stevie will be his top priority.
As his first order of business, Cash checks Stevie into a hotel so he can monitor the premises closely. He asks her to turn off her location services and stay off social media, but Stevie’s already pushing back against his rules. She refuses to let the stalker “win” and won’t do anything that interferes with her career. Cash bristles, realising that this is going to be tough.
Meanwhile, a shady-looking young man arrives at the Surf Club, and Alf is immediately on his guard. The man’s name is Peter and turns out he’s an investigative journalist for the Coastal News, sniffing around for details surrounding baby Maia’s case.
His unsavoury references to the missing mother as a “welfare cheat” and “addict” infuriate Alf, so he shoos him out of his Surf Club.
Unfortunately, this journo isn’t easily dissuaded. Dana and Harper are hanging out flyers to the public, seeking contact from anyone who could know the whereabouts of baby Maia’s mother.
The journalist approaches Dana and he’s wearing a different outfit and a disarming smile. He sweet-talks Dana, offering to buy her a coffee for her hard work as a nurse in this whole situation, and lures her into revealing confidential details – Maia’s name, and the fact that Tane was the one who found her. Peter thanks her for the chat, and leaves.
Xander, witnessing the little coffee date, bursts a flattered Dana’s bubble by pointing out that the man is a journalist. Dana realises she has been tricked.
