Retelling his story to his followers on his Instagram stories, Matt admitted he had been “slammed up against the rocks”. Following this, he sustained some pretty nasty injuries to his hands as he was flung off his board in the terrifying scenes.
But despite the injuries he sustained, Matt surprisingly looked well and only appeared to be shaken up following the incident. Sharing some snaps of his hands, he admitted that the injuries had been rather gnarly.
He also shared some pics of his journey following the riptide incident, with the first being just moments after he was taken from the water. Bearing a huge smile and gritting his teeth as he took off his wetsuit, Matt seemed in good spirits as he boasted the cuts to his hand.
Joking with family, friends and fans on his social media channel, he explained: “The sea was angry that day, my friend.” The caption had been written by Matt’s good pal, singer-songwriter Jaime Robbie Reyne.
A second image revealed that it was Anthony “Harries” Carroll but beloved Aussie beach show Bondi Rescue as the one who saved Evans from the water. In the snap, both lads could be seen together cracking a smile as they took a selfie in the aftermath of the chaos.
Evans even went as far as to share snaps of him in the emergency room at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney. Luckily, he was not on his own however as pal Jaime was with him as he had his cuts looked at by medical professionals.
Hours later, Matt took to his Instagram once again to give fans the gory details of what happened. “It’s all smiles in these stories, but… I just got caught in a rip at Bronte with a massive set,” he said as he flaunted his cut hand.
