ITV Coronation Street Roy Cropper goes on hunger strike as he’s held in prison for murder

Roy Cropper is set to go on hunger strike in devastating upcoming scenes on Coronation Street.

The ongoing storyline on the ITV show has seen Roy (played by David Neilson) questioned by police after Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) disappeared from Weatherfield. Roy has been the prime suspect in the murder inquiry in the community.

Apparent evidence against the cafe owner, who previously employed Lauren, has included that he “misguidedly deep cleaned” her flat following her disappearance. And he has found himself at the centre of online speculation and been subjected to trolling on social media in recent weeks.

Poor Roy is set to be further questioned over an incident in an upcoming episode. ITV has teased: “Things take a turn for the worse [when] a woman pretending to be Lauren’s mum visits the cafe and ends up in a tussle with Roy, before falling and hitting her head.” Roy is said to later be taken in for questioning about it.

And next week, Roy will find out he has been charged with murder. His solicitor Dee Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown) later breaks the news to other residents, revealing that he’s being held in police custody. At the station, Roy will be “terrified and confused” waiting for his court hearing.

And in further upcoming scenes, viewers are set to see him supported by Dee Dee in court. However, crimes from his past, like the assault on Gary Windass (Mikey North), are set to be brought up by the CPS barrister in opposition.

As reported by the Sun, Dee-Dee puts forward her case in defence of Roy and urges the judge to grant him bail. The request however is set to be denied and the judge instead orders that the cafe owner be held in custody until his trial.

Another scene in an upcoming episode is set to show Roy in his prison cell. As teased by ITV ahead of the scene later this month, the character refuses his breakfast and refuses to leave his cell.

Speaking about the storyline, actor David has said: “Roy is innocent in every respect, he is innocent of the crime, but he is also an innocent soul. He never thought for one minute it would come to this, he truly felt that if he simply answered everything honestly it would all be okay and he was naive to assume that being innocent meant that he would be seen to be innocent.”
